Marilyn Monroe Pleated Tiered Dress

I love the cut of the dress. I’ve seen the pattern the dress was inspired by and the way it looked on Marylin. It’s a bit of a different cut but I see similarities. First, PLEASE size up. If your already a 6, I don’t think this dress is for you. I always size up in dress bc I have an H cup size. This has absolutely no give in the busy area. I usually wear cute cardigans with spaghetti strap dresses, so it looked the way I imagined it would with the cardigan. Second, the pleats are gorgeous. The cut of the dress from the bust down is flowy and feminine. The straps don’t adjust all the way and because of the bust, I never unzipped it. I had to delicately put it on like a shirt. Is it worth the trouble for this dress? To me, yeah. It’s not an everyday dress for me so, the pros outweigh the cons. Third, the first dress I ordered, one of the white strips, were not properly sewn and it was coming undone. I was willing to go to my local torrid and exchange it. I called ahead to see if the dress was available. I learned that collections like the Marylin collection and Betsey Johnson collection were online exclusives. I needed to call customer service. I was extremely happy with customer service. They were incredibly quick and efficient and I had another dress in less than five days. Unfortunately, I just think I got a bad one off. It was rectified with ease though. Overall, I am keeping the dress. It really is a beautiful dress. Because of the bust, I would NEVER pay full price for it, but I did pay enough where I would give a cautious tale. If you plan on wearing it by itself and you have a larger bust, I would wait until it’s on clearance. If your like me and have a shrug or cardigan to go with it and a cute set of pearls and some flats, get the dress. 😊

I wore this dress for the first time today and absolutely loved it! It was a great length and I loved the pleating, but I am taking off two stars for the zipper and fit. I am a 24/26 (little more 26 lately). I bought this dress in a 26 and it *still* feels a little snug and too fitted around the waist. It definitely runs on the smaller size. I am in between two sizes so I went with the bigger one. If you are not between sizes, then definitely size up one size. The zipper was just hard to work with. It gets stuck easily and I felt like I was going to rip it if I was not careful.

This dress is gorgeous and I so wanted to love it. However, the back zipper is poorly made as others have reported. The bodice is much smaller than the skirt for sizing and I have small boobs. I suspect if your chest is generous, you will have real problems with this dress

I bought this a few weeks ago and wore it for Easter. The zipper can be tricky where the fabric doubles at the seams. We had to pull the fabric as close together and as straight as possible to get the zipper through those spots. It was really hard to do it without a second pair of hands but I was able to spin it around, zip it solo and spin it back. I agree with the other reviews, no stretch at all so measure yourself and be exact and if you're between sizes with a fuller bust, size up. I've regularly been a torrid 3, size 22 for years. My bust is 52 in, 44 waist and I did not have a problem with sizing. It fit perfectly to me after the zipper struggles. I'm also 5'5 and it went past my knees like a midi dress. The fabric is beautiful and the dress is not EXACTLY like Marilyn's but it's pretty close. Not see through and did not hug my belly. Bonus for handy pockets! I found it very comfortable and people loved it :)

Beautiful dress. I love that it's inspired by Marilyn's dress, the lovely blue color, the fat that it has pockets, and the delicate pleats. For me it was pretty true to size, though as others have said, there's no real give in the bodice. Also like others have said, the straps are wimpy and on the fragile side, and there are a couple of places where the pleats go a bit wavy to accommodate pockets, the zipper etc. Overall I'm pleased with it, though, as it looks different than o lot of things I buy from Torrid.

This dress is perfection! It has beautiful details, elegant styling - it is the perfect length and very beautiful ! I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a soft, feminine look. Also the quality of the craftmanship on this dress is just beautiful.

This dress is absolutely beautiful. I don’t regret buying it. But it runs a size small and the zipper is near impossible to zip up passed the first seam at the waist. I wasn’t able to zip it up at all but I was able to put it on over my head due to the larger size.

This dress is so, so beautiful in person. It hits me (5'9) close to where it falls on the mode, and it is one of the prettiest dresses I remember buying at torrid since I first started shopping here around 2006. But, the strap adjusters feel very cheap and not sturdy at all, the straps are too short on me, and it is very tight in the bust and the empire seam under the bust. I am on the larger end of size 6 and wear a bra size 54m, so this probably won't be a problem for smaller people with less extreme busts. I wish I could size up but it is the biggest size. I am keeping it and hoping to fit in it someday because I like it so much.
